Task 1: Genre Analysis (Week 1 - 2)

Students are required to select 2 types of genre based on their interest to research on and analyse.

What are Film Genres?

Film genres are used to categorize movies based mostly on plot lines, but also takes style, setting, and characters into consideration. Genres can overlap, and many movies fall into more than one broad category.

Genre is best defined as a set of patterns/forms/styles/structures which transcend individual films and texts, and which supervise both their construction by the film-maker and their reading/viewing by an audience. They are part also of the "frames of recognition" which govern both the institutional production, marketing and distribution of texts, and the selection and consumption of those texts by viewers and readers.

With this in mind I am interested in studying on the following 2 films based on the genre: Adventure

1st Movie Title: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Released date: 19 December 2001 (USA)

Writers: J.K. Rowling (novel),  Steve Kloves (screenplay)

Director: Chris Columbus

Stars: Daniel Radcliffe,  Rupert Grint,  Richard Harris

Plot Summary:

This is the tale of Harry Potter, an ordinary 11-year-old boy serving as a sort of slave for his aunt and uncle who learns that he is actually a wizard and has been invited to attend the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is snatched away from his mundane existence by Hagrid, the grounds keeper for Hogwarts, and quickly thrown into a world completely foreign to both him and the viewer. Famous for an incident that happened at his birth, Harry makes friends easily at his new school. He soon finds, however, that the wizarding world is far more dangerous for him than he would have imagined, and he quickly learns that not all wizards are ones to be trusted.

My Analysis of the Movie:

This movie is a delight for those of all ages.

This movie is filled a lot of visual effect and animation.

The cast is outstanding, the special effects well presented, everything most believable.

You have young Harry, a mistreated youth who is "Just Harry" to himself. And then, he embarks on a most beautiful adventure to the Hogwarts school.

He meets Ron and Hermione, one an adorable mischief maker, the other a very tense and studious young lady.

Together, the trio try to set things right in the school.

It's the ultimate fantasy for young and old.
