Design Studio Conceptualization - Topic 2: Process Book - Task 2: Pattern Making

In this task, I was introduced to two broad groups of patterns in relation to graphic design terminologies. They are:

1)  "Non- Organic Pattern" (A.K.A Geometric Pattern)
2)  "Organic Pattern"

Non - Organic Pattern (A.K.A Geometric Pattern) are linear pattern type   and well geometric. They have more “structure” than organic patterns, and seem to be man-made designs instead of something that could be growing from the earth.  Examples of geometric patterns, include stripes, checks, plaids, circles and other geometric patterns like these patterns below from GreenHouse Design:

Organic Pattern are shapes or forms having irregular edges or to surfaces or objects resembling things existing in nature. Instead of straight lines, organic patterns utilize curves, scrolls, vines, leaves, flowers and other curvilinear features. Below are examples of Organic Pattern from GreenHouse Design:

Task 2 -- "Patterns Making"  Design process using visualization methods. Mark-making as analysis, representation, communication imaging as ideas, gesture and information.

I was asked to find and collect images of 50 different patterns from any source (physical or digital sources).

After collecting the 50 different patterns, I choose 15 out of the 50 images, to identify the pattern type and convert each of the 15 images from their original patter to the opposite pattern. For example (Convert Organic Pattern to Non-Organic Pattern - Vice versa)

The Conversion Process...
Organic Pattern to Non-Organic Pattern - and Vice versa.

Hand made with pencil and colour markers.

After converting Organic Pattern to Non-Organic Pattern - and Vice versa. I am to choose (5 images) I like best out of the 15 images I have converted.  Recreate the patterns of the 5 images using Mark- Making method with any object or materials.
